BMW Gearbox Joint
BMW Gearbox Joint – replacement selector-rod joint for a tighter, more precise shift. Aluminium body, bushing and clip included.
- Fits: all BMW manual transmissions
- €45 excl. VAT
The BMW gearbox joint sits on the selector rod, at the gearbox end. When the factory joint wears, the lever feels vague and you can miss a shift. This replacement is made for BMW manual transmissions – E-series through G-series, including M cars. Pair it with our adjustable DSSR selector rod or the BMW short shifter kit.

What the BMW Gearbox Joint Does
The factory joint is a common wear point. Play here shows up as slop at the lever, even if the shifter itself is still tight. A new joint takes that play out so the movement at your hand reaches the gearbox cleanly. Read more about the gear stick and why play at this end of the linkage matters.
The body is machined aluminium, with a bushing in the bore and a retaining clip. It replaces the worn OEM joint on the selector rod. On a standard BMW manual gearbox you do not need to fabricate anything – undo the old joint, fit this one, and set the rod length if you are using an adjustable rod.
When to Replace It
Most people notice the joint after they have already changed the shifter. The new lever feels sharp until you load it, then the gate still wanders. That leftover movement is often this joint, not the shifter.
Typical signs:
- The lever can be wiggled in neutral more than it used to.
- 3rd and 4th are easy to miss when you are in a hurry.
- The factory rubber or plastic insert is oval, split, or dry.
- You can see play if you hold the selector rod and move the gearbox lever.
If the rod itself is bent or the other end is worn, replace the rod as well. The DSSR is the part we use on our own cars for that job. If you only need the gearbox end, this BMW gearbox joint is the piece to order.
Fitting
Raise the car safely and support it on stands. The joint is on the selector rod, at the gearbox. Note how the old one sits before you take it off – clocking matters so the rod does not bind through the shift.
Remove the clip or pin, slide the old joint off, and fit the new BMW gearbox joint the same way. Refit the clip. If the rod is adjustable, set the length so the lever sits in the middle of the gate in neutral, then go through every gear before you drive. The job is short if you can already reach the linkage.
Fitment
Made for all BMW manual transmissions. That includes E30 to G-series, M models, and SMG-to-manual conversions that keep a BMW gearbox.
If you are also replacing the shifter, the joint is already included in the BMW short shifter kit. Sold on its own here if you only need this part. See the rest of our short shifters.

FAQ
Will this BMW gearbox joint fit my BMW?
If the car has a BMW manual gearbox, yes. Email us if you want that confirmed before you order.
Do I need a new selector rod as well?
Not always. Replace the joint on its own if the rod is still straight and the other end is tight. If the rod is worn or you want a dual-shear adjustable rod, fit it with the DSSR.
Is it the same part as in the short shifter kit?
Yes. The kit includes this joint so you do not have to order it separately when you buy the full package.
Is the price with VAT?
No, all prices are shown excluding VAT.
