What’s Included in the BMW Short Shifter Kit

A short shifter is only as precise as the linkage behind it. Fitting a new shifter to a worn factory selector rod leaves slop in the system, so this BMW short shifter kit replaces the whole chain between your hand and the gearbox:

• NP Parts short shifter – your choice of the BMW E36/E46 Stealth short shifter V3 (round knob or stealth knob) or the BMW Short Shifter V2 in seven anodised colours.
• Adjustable double shear selector rod (DSSR) – CNC-milled 6082 aluminium, hard anodised, with a dual-shear design and adjustable length.
• Gearbox joint – the matching joint for the selector rod, so the linkage is connected without play.

The DSSR and gearbox joint are always included – you only pick the shifter and, for the V2, the colour.

Installation Guide

Installing the BMW short shifter kit is a straightforward job for anyone comfortable working under the car. Raise and support the car safely, remove the gear knob, console trim and boot, then remove the factory shifter and selector rod.

Mount the new short shifter on the gearbox tunnel, fit the DSSR with the gearbox joint and set the rod length so the lever sits in your preferred neutral position. Tighten all hardware, seat the base plate and refit the boot. Finally, cycle through every gear and check the gear lock engages and releases cleanly before driving.
